Antisemitism during World War II, twelve press photographs
Ca. 1935-1945. Gelatin silver prints, var. sizes, w. typed descriptions and different stamps verso incl. those of the Associated Press, A.F.P., Anpfoto and De Geïllustreerde Pers N.V. Archief. (1-2) "Jew surrounded by Nazi". Photos of an elderly Jewish man being questioned by the Nazis/ the police. (3) Street scene from 1935 w. a poster stating "Juden sind in dieser Ortschaft nicht erwünscht!" ("Jews are not wanted in this place"). (4) "Jewish shop daubed with the word Jude" (Jew). According to the typed description verso, the Berlin based photographer, Selkirk Panton, was arrested hours after taking the image. -and 8 more of buildings smeared with antisemitic slogans and swastikas. Added: 6 related press photographs of buildings defaced with antisemitic slogans and signs, ca. 1959-1960, incl. a photo of an announcement in Barcelona for a film about Anne Frank, smeared with a swastika.
