Provenance: From the library of Edward Montagu Stuart Granville, 1st Earl of Wharncliffe (1827-1899), w. his bookplate on upper pastedown and gilt coat of arms w. motto "Avito Viret Honore" on front cover. The first French edition of this important early work on Islam based on Islamic sources, by the Dutch Orientalist Adrian Reland (1676-1718). The Latin original was published in 1705.
