Occas. browned/ sl. foxed, folds (as expected), but contents of the letters still clearly legible. Nice collection of letters by the great French sinologist Julien (1799-1873) to several correspondents, incl. a.o. French archaeologist and Natural History Museum librarian Charles Lenormant (1802-1859) and French geologist and archeologist Jules P.F.S. Desnoyers (1800-1887). The letters present interesting insight into Julien's working life as a sinologist and his network of colleagues, government officials and other correspondents. (total 28)
