[India] Tiger hunt photo album
April/ May 1886. 16 sepia-toned albumen photographs mounted on a sheet of paper, captioned by hand and then mounted on cardboard. Photos showing tiger hunting in British India in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh; photos signed Herzog von Bragança. Images of a.o. dead tigers, and British people participating in the hunt (among others Count Ferdinand Trauttmansdorff and Prince Louis Esterházy), views of the camps in Baramba and Ubri Khera, a house on Goona (Guna), topographical views, pictures of native Indians and military officials. All photographs are captioned in German in a contemporary hand, most likely one of the participants in the hunt, as the annotator refers to himself in the captions and provides details on the hunt. Orig. black cloth portfolio w. silk-watered cloth on the inside, front board lettered in gold and titled 'Central Indien. 1886'.
Portfolio sl. worn, some browning, particularly to the edges of the leaves, and some small foxed spots (not affecting the photos). An extremely rare album showing tiger hunting, a popular leisure activity in British India.
