Lacks the orig. title-p. (replaced by a later non-original letterpress title, loosening) and a view of Leiden; bookblock w. waterst./ damp soiled in upper margin (and also in lower margin at the end), upper margin also occas. cut sl. short, somewhat affecting the printed areas, some strengthened tears and other defects/ imperfections.

Interesting copy of the Plantin 1582 edition, supplied w. forged title-p. of an invented edition. Provenance: Adolphe Mathieu (1804-1876), author from Mons, manuscript curator to the Royal Library of Belgium and N.-F.-J. Defuisseaux, lawyer from Mons (their bookplates on upper pastedown).
