Mooy, Jan (1776-1847). "Het zinken van het Amerikaanse schip Janson,
voor de Helder komende van Batavia 4 Feb.ry 1820." Drawing in pen and ink and watercolour, 35.5 x 44 cm, signed in lower right corner. Stained and w. centre fold, carefully remargined.
The loss of the ship The Janson of Providence, Rhode Island, due to drifting ice, is depicted in three stages, shown from right to left. As Den Helder was the artist's home town, Mooij probably witnessed the event himself.
