[China] Portrait of Chairman Mao Zedong, ca. 1964
Photographer unknown, gelatin silver print, approx. 60.7 x 47 cm, few sm. annot. from unknown hand in pencil verso.
Warping, sl. dam. to edges, some creases, and pinholes in the corners. *Similar to others portraits of Mao Zedong (Mao Tse-tung), this portrait was featured in various publications of the single most important book during the cultural revolution, officially titled Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung, but commonly referred to as the little red book. Later, in the 1970s, Andy Warhol used this portrait for a series on Mao in his characteristic colourful style.
