*N.A.M., a subsidiary of Shell and Esso, was established in 1947 following the discovery of an oil field in Schoonebeek, which emerged as one of the largest oil fields in Western Europe. Over the years, Schoonebeek developed into a thriving village, largely due to the numerous investments by N.A.M.
