*Wickevoort was the grandson of Henri van Wickevoort Crommelin, a famous Dutch breeder who was a pioneer in importing American mares for trotter breeding, famous for his prize-winning horses. The classical trotting competition named Henri van Wickevoort Crommelin Memoriaal is named after him. Gert Jan van Wickevoort Crommelin died in battle in 1940 at the Haagsche Schouw.
