[Underground press] Hei Voetsek!

Ed. by E. Josephs. Cape Town, E. Josephs, ca. 1997. Nos. 4-5. Written, designed, drawn, photoshopped and photocopied by Josephs himself.

Elliot Josephs, better known as Zebulon Dread, is a South African cultural icon and writer. He gained notoriety for his political views and controversial, satirical self-publication, Hei Voetsek. The publication dissected South African politics, culture, society and gender. The magazine, which targeted everyone from corrupt politicians to conservative Afrikaaners, was written in Cape Flats dialect, a blend of English, Afrikaans and slang. Rejected by more established publishers because of the nature of the work, Josephs used small, independent black-owned printing firms. He sold the magazine himself on the streets, at book fairs and art festivals countrywide. Rare. (total 2)
