[Japan] Seven prints: (1) Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861). Sangoku ken, Game of the three countries
Actors Nakamura Utaemon IV (representing Japan as Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess), Seki Sanjuro (representing India as Shaka, the historical Buddha) and Ichimura Uzaemon XII (representing China as Koshi, Confucius). Col. woodcut, 35.5 x 24 cm, between 1847-48. Left and lower margins cut sl short. The game is similar to that of "rock, paper, scissors". (2-4) Utagawa Yoshifuji (1828-1889). Kasunoke Masahige builds his castle on mount Kongô. Col. woodcut tryptich, total size 35.3 x 73.5 cm, ca. 1847-53. Upper margin of two prints trimmed at the top, total lower margin lacking a few millimeters, many thin spots/ tears closed w. thin paper verso (restored copy). -and 3 others by Kuniyoshi (2x, middle-folds and creased) and Utagawa Shigekiyo.
