[Buitenzorg] Lang, Carl. Album van Buitenzorg. Een souvenir aan de residentie van Insulinde

Vier en twintig onveranderlijke lichtdrukken. Buitenzorg (Bogor, Indonesia), n.d. (ca. 1888), lithogr. title followed by an plate-index printed on the same bifolium, 24 collotype reproductions of photographic views (all ca. 18 x 23.5 cm, on orig. mounts), loose as issued, in the orig. giltlettered cl. portfolio, 34 x 33.5 cm. A few minor interior imperfections, spine of portfolio faded and weak on joints (also of flaps), sl. dam. at top and foot.

Cat. KITLV, p. 14; Haks & Maris p. 162-163. Very rare album by the German born photographer and lithographic artist Carl Lang (1830-1906), who went to Indonesia in 1860s. He became lithographer of the Topographic Bureau in Jakarta and draughtsman of the Botanical Garden in Buitenzorg, before moving to the Netherlands shortly before his death. The first eleven plates are views of the large governor's palace and gardens, the other thirteen show var. buildings (incl. the train station), roads, mountains (incl. a smoking volcano), forests, rivers, villages, farms, shops in the Chinese quarter, all in and around the city of Buitenzorg.
