Instrumentum hoc a Petrum Apiano (...) inventum (...), das die Form und Gestalt hat eine Blats, werden durch den Sonnen scheyn, in der gantzen Welt gefunden die gamaine Stunden des Tages, und auss der Selbigen, vermittels dises Blats magst du die Stunden vom Auff und Nidergang der Sonnen, des geleichen die Judenstand (...) leichtlich erkennen. Title-p. printed in red and black w. large woodcut by Hans Brosamer, full-p. woodcut dep. the coat of arms of the dedicatee J.G. von Loubenberg, a large woodcut diagram present in the Latin as well as in the German text. Modern boards w. the orig. free endpapers preserved, folio. Without the fold. plate (as is common) and wormholed throughout.

Description of a newly invented poplar leaf-shaped sundial. Apianus (1495-1552), cartographer and professor at the University of Ingolstadt, was a pioneer in the design of astronomical and geographical instruments. Part of his works were published privately.
