Nelly van Doesburg. Postcard and inscribed book to K. Schippers, 1973-1974
(1) Handwritten postcard sent to K. Schippers from Italy by Nelly van Doesburg (1899-1975) on April 16 1973. 10.5 x 15 cm. In addition to her regards, Nelly writes 'I hope the photos are not lost !!!'. This refers to an unfortunate story; in 1973 K. Schippers was working on the publication 'Dada in Holland' and had just visited Nelly in Meudon (France) with his friend and photographer Philip Mechanicus. After an extensive photoshoot and interview they drove back to Amsterdam and headed straight to De Kring, parking in front of the club. Whilst inside, the car was broken into and the audio tapes and photos were stolen.
(2) Inscription by Nelly van Doesburg on the opening page of the first edition of K.Schipper's 'Holland Dada', published by Querido Amsterdam in 1974. It reads 'In grooten dank aan Schippers, voor het goede werk wat hij heeft gedaan. Nelly van Doesburg, Meudon, 20 IV '74.' The note conveys Nelly's sincere appreciation of Schippers' work, with whom she had maintained an ongoing and thoughtful correspondence. Schippers went to Meudon in 1974 to give her the newly printed book, this particular copy was inscribed at that time. (total 2)
