N.d., ca. 1930s. Oil on canvas. Signed bottom right. 40 x 50 cm. Exhibited in De Ploeg, Pictura, Sept. 1940*, catalogue no. 44 as 'Stierengevecht' but the above title is De Vries' own. One of a series of four paintings De Vries dedicated to the subject.

The work should have been titled 'Droom van een Stierengevecht', reflecting a recurring theme in his oeuvre - his fascination with the interplay between Thanatos and Eros, symbolized in the fight between the bull and bull fighter.
