Jacques Rigaut. Papiers posthumes

Paris, Au Sans Pareil, 1934. Softcover, 145 x 213 cm, 112 uncut pp. From an edition of 300 copies on Vélin de Montgolfier, this one numbered 181. Includes a previously unpublished portrait of the artist by Man Ray. Small abrasion to blue cover, else in very good condition.

The book presents a collection of manuscripts gathered after Rigaut's death in 1929. At the age of 30, Rigaut shot himself, using a ruler to be sure the bullet would pass through his heart. Jacques Rigaut was a French surrealist poet and founding member of the Paris Dada group. His works often explore the theme of suicide. Provenance: library of K. Schippers. Added: 4 b/w photos, featuring the exterior of Rigaut's home in Paris, taken by K. Schippers, during the 1970s.
