Allan Kaprow. Photoalbum: Moving, a happening by Allan Kaprow
Chicago, Museum of Contemporary Art, 1967. Staple bound, 21.5 x 14 cm, 16 pp. Artists' book documenting a happening, commissioned by the museum, which took place over 4 days, on 6 different sites. Title and artist statement on covers, the interior features 17 b/w photos by Peter Moore. Designed by Kaprow. Moderate browning of paper, small tear (1.5 cm) along fold, tiny abrasions on some paper edges. Fantastic record of a trailblazing project.
Kaprow's statement reads 'Some unused houses in different parts of the city. On each of four days, old furniture is obtained, and is pushed through the streets to the houses. The furniture is installed. On the first day, bedrooms are furnished, and slept in that night. On the second day, dining rooms are furnished, and a meal is eaten. On the third day, living rooms are furnished, and guests are invited to cocktails. On the fourth day, attics are filled and their doors are locked.'
