Upper joint partially split (with some loss of leather over the joint), lower joint starting to split at extremities; extremities somewhat rubbed, corners bumped. Tear affecting the 'Voorbericht' (running through the signature). All prints blindst. and signed in ink by the artist with 'PLC RMWO', referring to Pieter le Comte, Ridder Militaire Willems-Orde.

First and only edition of a fine and technically accurate series of lithographic prints depicting a wide variety of ships and vessels, mostly Dutch but also incl. some foreign examples and an early depiction of a steamboat. Pieter le Comte (1802-1849), naval officer, painter, draftsman and lithograph artist, demonstrates in this work his thorough understanding of ship constructions and rigging.
