[Book of hours] Heures de Nostre Dame á l'usage de Rome en Latin et en François

Par M. René Benoist (...). Reveuës & Corrigé (...) par Guillaume Gazet Curé de S. Marie Magdelaine en Arras. Douay, Marc Wyon, 1611, (16),448,(32),46,(1) p. Printed in red and black throughout, w. woodcut title-vignette, 12 sm. woodcuts in the calendar and 16 other 3/4 page woodcut illustrations. Cont. richly gilt calf, both covers w. central oval stamp of Christ on the cross, surrounded by num. stars, flowers and cornerpieces; spine with gilt compartments and raised bands. Lacks most of leaf C2 and parts of the final 2 lvs, sl. affecting the text; printer's woodcut vignette and one blank corner of the title restored. Occas. waterst., a a few minor repairs. Spines slightly chipped, joints split, corners and edges restored or bumped. Lacking ties. With ownership inscription on final leaf (partly crossed out): "Ce livre appartien a Anthonette Achevant aux qui le trouvaient (...) Douay (?)".

Extremely rare edition, apparently unrecorded in OCLC, but mentioned on the Wikipedia page on Guillaume Gazet. Cf "René Benoist, Heures de Nostre Dame, en Latin et en Francois, Douai: Jean Bogard, 1597 (revised and revisited). Reissued in Douai in 1611. Interestingly, the binding closely resembles that of the richly illustrated manuscript Les heures Tramerie (ca.1420-1430) and completed more than a century later - likewise by a citizen of Douay.
