[Chassinettes] Viewing screen with twenty replaceable chassinnettes
Probably Dutch, ca. 1850. Viewing screen made of wood w. mounted paper framing decoration and standing on wooden feet, 39 x 43 cm, with three black shadow puppets placed in front of the chassinettes. Contains 20 replaceable drawings in gouache on thin semi-translucent fabric, in wooden frames, 25.5 x 34.5 cm each, the chasinettes kept in 3 cont. wooden boxes w. sliding lids. Four of the chassinettes in poor condition, moulded and dam., the lid of their box broken and incomplete, some (water)staining and wrinkling in the other views. Still remarkably well-preserved for such fragile items.
A very fine and rare collection, comprising (repeated) views of small villages in the countryside w. churches, bridges and profiles of larger places in the background, interiors and lanes w. trees. (total 21)
