Buning, J. (1893-1963). Portrait of Jeanette (?) Brongers sitting in a chair

Watercolour, 38 x 42 cm (borderline, the drawing continued in margins of the sheet measuring 40 x 51 cm), signed "Johan Buning" in the technique, under passe-partout w. annotation "Portret J.S. (?) Brongers door Johan Buning" in ballpoint verso. Together with a similar, smaller watercolour by the same, also under passe-partout.

Johan Buning married Titia Brongers (b. 1904, also a watercolourist) in 1934. After her death in 1961, Johan and his sister-in-law Jeanette Brongers founded the Titia Buning-Brongers Stichting (since 1992 the Buning Brongers Stichting), which awards incentive prizes to young painters. (total 2)
