Richard Long. Four artists' books, 1969-1977
(1) Richard Long, Sculpture by Richard Long made for Martin & Mia Visser, Bergeijk. N.p. (Berlin), Fernsehgalerie Gerry Schum, N.d. (1969). Softcover, 21 x 14 cm, 9 unnumbered leaves. Edition of 500. The booklet features 7 b/w photographs (made by Fernsehgalerie Gerry Schum) of a land art sculpture made in Dartmoor for the Dutch collectors Martin and Mia Visser, 'conceived for the purpose of photographic reproduction' (...). The publication became known as the very first artists' book by Richard Long, although he later disowned it as a project by the Vissers and Schum. (Lauf and Phillpot p.36). Curious and scarce item with some wear to spine, but overall in fine condition.
(2) Richard Long. From along a Riverbank. Amsterdam, Art & Project, 1971. Softcover, staple-bound, 21 x 10 cm, 20 pp. First printing August 1971. Edition of 300. B/w images of leaves found along a riverbank. Mild toning to covers, else very good. (3) Richard Long, Inca Rock. Campfire Ash. London/Edinburgh, Robert Self/National Gallery of Modern Art, 1974. Staplebound, 29 x 44 cm, 28 pp. Illustrated with 12 b/w photographic reproductions and 4 topographic maps. Text and graphic design by Richard Long. Mild creasing and toning to glossy covers, interior very good. (4) Richard Long. A Hundred Stones. One mile between first and last. Cornwall, England 1977. Bern, Kunsthalle Bern, 1977. Hardcover, 21 x 15 cm, approx. 100 pp. Published in conjunction with the exhibition held in Switzerland, featuring full page b/w photographic images. Spine with toning, very good copy. (total 4)
