Tellegen (1893–1976) was an academically trained woman of the early feminist generation and a personally and intellectually influential figure in the circle around Carry van Bruggen, one of the foremost Dutch modernist writers and early feminist thinkers. She is depicted in the accompanying photograph taken at her graduation party — a rare document showing one of the few Dutch women scientists of her time.
