Francoise Janicot (1929 - 2017) was a French painter, photographer, performance artist, sound poet and feminist artist. Recurring themes in her work are the hidden and the visible (such as the dessins cachés, and frottages), and 'Enconnages', wrappings covering and uncovering the body, alluding to confinement of women and their self-liberation. The works derive from the collection of Belgian publisher and gallerist Guy Schraenen, who produced several Janicot projects, including exhibitions, artists' books, and the film 'Enconnages' (1975) featuring a performance by Janicot and sound scapes by her partner Bernard Heidsieck.
