Binding worn along extremities, inner hinges a bit weak. Upper pastedown w. mounted fold. dedicatory letter (torn in 2 pieces). Dated Amst., 16 Nov. 1883, by the widow Kappeyne v.d. Coppello-Bake, stating that she withheld it from the sale of her late husband's library ("Kappeyne had er zwak op, daarom hield ik het terug") and offering it "als souvenir aan hem, die u bijzonder liefhad, en die ook door u gewaardeerd werd". The names refer to prof. dr. Nicolaas Jacob Bernard Kappeyne van de Coppello (1818-1882) and Nicoline Johanna Cornelia Bake (1820-1898). Bondy, 24, Gaskell, 190.
