Heinrich Heine (1797-1856) manintained a complex attitude towards Jews and Judaica, reflected in a few passages in this text and in one etching. A famous and prophetic quote by him reads: "dort wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen".
