James Lee Byars. The Golden Room, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, 1995
Monumental exhibition poster, colour offset-printed on both sides, 175 x 118.5 cm. Designed by Anthon Beeke in conjunction with the JLB show at the Stedelijk Museum held from July 14 to October 19 1995. Rare, in very good condition.
One side of the poster shows a picture of Joseph Beuys and Byars (in signature black hat and blindscarf) at the opening of the show 'To the Happy Few' at Museum Haus Lange Krefeld in 1983, and an image of a gold-leaved covered wall. The other side presents the text 'James Lee Byars The Golden Room' in mirror image, printed in white on black. The exhibition was quite iconic; James Lee Byars (1932-1997) transformed the Stedelijk Museum's large Hall of Honour into a completely gold environment, with walls and ceilings covered in gold foil and a gold pedestal with gold-coated objects in the centre.
