Quarterly magazine edited by Josine van Droffelaar and Wies Smals (until 1983), followed by Edna van Duyn and Saskia Bos. Published by the legendary Amsterdam-based centre for performance, installations and video art founded by Wies Smals in 1975, and still ongoing. The magazine format replaced the former loose sheet announcements. Softcover, staple-bound, 29.5 x 21 cm; from 1983 onwards 29.7 x 22 cm. Some issues appeared as audio cassette (1984 no. 3), card set (1985 3/4) or catalogue (1988 no. 1). Comprises: 1981 (No. 1, 2, 3-4), 1982 (No. 1, 2, 3, 4), 1983 (No. 1, 2, 3-4), 1984 (No. 1, 2, 3, 4), 1985 (No. 1, 2, 3-4), 1986 (No. 1, 2), 1987 (No. 1, 2), 1988 (No. 1, 2), 1989/90 (No. 1, 2). Extremely rare complete set, in good condition.
The Bulletin features artists' contributions, b/w illustrations and texts about De Appel projects in Dutch and English. Contributors include Marina Abramovic/Ulay, James Lee Byars, Lawrence Weiner, General Idea, Raul Marroquin, Lily van Ginneken, Michael Gibbs, Hans Haacke, Barbara Kruger, Willem de Ridder et al. No. 2 1981 contains the essay 'Gossip, Scandal and Good Manners' by Ulises Carrion. No. 3/4 1983 is a special 'In Memoriam' issue dedicated to Wies Smals (1939 - 1983), founder of De Appel, who tragically died in a plane crash. Barbara Bloom made the cover with a collage of Chinese offering paper. Added is an aluminum memorial tag 'Present/Absent' made by Bloom, commissioned by De Appel in 1993. (total 26)
