Waclaw Ropiecki. Autotherapeutical Seances, 1977-1980
Original photo series, self-published by the artist in Wroclaw, Poland. (1) Set of three b/w photographic selfportraits, each 10.5 x 15 cm. With stamped numbers 3, 13 and 14, and painted additions in various colours. Verso features stamped information (Autotherapeutical Seances 1977, performed 2 June 1980), handwritten number 60/31, and Ropiecki's address stamp. (2) Series of three b/w photographic selfportraits, each 9 x 14 cm, with hand-stamped numbers 10, 11, 14. Rear shows red and black stamps with the artist's name and title information (Self-Portrait on the Red, 1.V.80 from the Autotherapeutical Seances). One photo contains address stamp. (3) Folded photocopied A4 sheet 'Selfportrait from the Last Moment', stamped 10 08 80, and signed in red pen. (total 7)
Waclaw Ropiecki (b. 1951) was an important figure in the Polish avant garde in the 1970s. He was a founding member of the Format student group in Wroclaw (1972-1976), cooperated with PERMAFO Gallery and Foto-Medium-Art in the early 1980s, and was active in the international mail art movement.
