New Year wishes, sent from East Berlin. (1) Typewriter work, zinc litho print on white card, 21 x 15 cm. Hand-signed on back, with stamped name and stamp 'typewritings'. In grey folder, stamped 'Mail Art' on exterior and 'Happy New Year' on interior. Mint card, folder shows mild creasing to corners. (2) Printed b/w collage on thick white paper, 28.8 x 21 cm, folded twice. Signed and dated 1981 in text line below the image reading 'Best wishes for 1982 and help to make the world a better place'. Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt (1932-2024) was a German artist associated with visual poetry and mail art, known for her ‘typewritings' produced between the 1970s and 1980s. Living in the strict surveillance in the former German Democratic Republic, mail art allowed for communication with an international network.
