Stempelplaats. Five series of rubber-stamped artists' cards
Published and hand-produced at Stempelplaats, the renown artist-run space in Amsterdam dedicated to stamp works and mail art. Includes five sets of several cards (each 10.5 x 15 cm): (1) Barton Lidice Benes, Fragment, 1978. Six postcards, each with unique stamp in various colours. Title, artist's name and publisher's information printed on verso. (2) GeORge Brett/ OR Post, 1979. Six rubber-stamped cards. In original envelope stamped and signed by the artist on verso. Each card shows typed address information of a person active in the OR Group, accompanied by a logo-type stamp (or Mail-Art alias) designed by Brett. Featured artists include Ray Johnson, Al Souza, Aart van Barneveld, Gerry Karlovec, Linda McGreevy, Steve Durland, Al Blaster and Joni K. Miller. An extensive series of these cards were exhibited at Stempelplaats, and published in Rubber Vol.2 No. 7 July 1979. OR Group originated in Amherst Massachusetts in the '70s, as a loose assembling of artists who make mail art.
(3) Lucia Francesco del Sasso, Stone by Stone, 1979-1981. Series of six colour-stamped cards, 10.5 x 14.7 cm, in original stamped cardboard sleeve. (4) Willy Scholte, 1979-1981. Five unique postcards, 10.5 x 15 cm, each signed and titled on rear. Contains 4 cards from the series 'Spinning Fingers' featuring black ink fingerprints and original drawings of a spider weaving a web connecting fingerprints. Contains 1 card 'Fatalistic Filately' with stamps, collaged elements and perforation lines. (5) Seven cards, each with unique stamp of each artist on recto and Stempelplaats information on recto. Among the seven artists are Ken Friedman, R.D. Schroeck, Horst Hahn and Flavio Pons. All card sets in very good state. (total 30)
