Shozu Shimamoto. Original mail art works
Collection of 13 objects sent to the Dutch mail artist Willy Scholte in the mid 1980s. Includes unique collaged and stamped works on paper and cloth, and an object made of cardboard. Most objects signed by the artist. Also included is an envelope with silver and pink Shimamoto stickers, addressed to Ulises Carrión in Amsterdam. Amazing set. Added are four mailed envelopes, all abundantly decorated. (total 17)
Shozo Shimamoto (1928–2013) was co-founder of the Gutai movement in Osaka, and publisher of Gutai Bulletin. He became involved in mail art during the 1970s and the 1980s. In 1976 he directed AU (Art Unidentified, aka Artist Union), a group of radical Japanese artists producing works without any limitation, and published the mail Art periodical AU.
