[Tobacco/Amsterdam/Philately] Archive Amsterdam cigar agency J. Bout

Folio album containing over 350 postcards and envelopes of Amsterdam-based tobacco agency and factory J.J. Bout, Valeriusstraat 38, Nassaukade 87 and Oudezijds Voorburgwal 187, between ca. 1879 and 1924. Includes an astonishing world-wide range of postcards from foreign agents, often as a thank you for shipments of cigar samples such as a Brisbane postcard 1900; 'Thank you for the samples of Cigars you sent me, and which I found to be of very good quality. I find upon enquiry however that there is very little sale in Brisbane for Cigars other than those imported direct from Manilla, and when a cheap quality Cigar is wanted the supply is drawn from the local factories' The same postcards also show that Firma Bout went through great length to attract new clients: 'Thank you for the stamps enclosed from which I have received several additions to my album'.

Including cards from Shanghai (China), South-Africa, nearly every European country, the USA, Chili, Brazil, etc. Mostly stamped and therefore possibly a filatelistic treasure trove.
