Maria E. Beets (1844-1918) was Nicolaas Beets' daughter (1814-1903). None of the manuscript poems are present in the printed book, nor were they published elsewhere. They include a very personal poem about Nicolaas Beets, titled "Aan mijn zeventigjarigen Vader".
