[China. Scheutisten] Segers, A. China. Het volk, dagelijksch leven en ceremoniën

Door P. Arthur Segers, oud missionaris in China. Introd. F. Beelaerts van Blokland ("oud-gezant van Nederland te Peking"). Printed in Tongeren by G. Michiels for "De Sikkel" in Antwerp and "De Spieghel" in Amsterdam, 1932. VIII,238,(1) p., w. 299 photogr. ills. on 160 plates (some plates bound in outside the regular order), contemp. gilt hmor., orig. wr. preserved, 4to (spine a bit sunned/ dry). Splendidly illustrated work, a special copy w. autograph signed dedication in pen by Arthus Segers on first free endpaper: "Uit diepe genegenheid & blijde herinnering opgedragen aan mijnen dierbaren vriend Jozef, oud Provinciaal van Oost-Mongolië. Moge dit boek bij stille avonduren u soms wêerbrengen in die lieve missie waar gij lange jaren uwe beste krachten hebt gewijd aan 't heil der zielen", signed and dated "Antwerpen den 11 Aug. 1933". The dedication is probably directed to Jozef de Wolf (we found other works by Segers w. dedication to De Wolf).

*Arthur Segers was also the author of the work Marteldood van den eerwaarden pater Jozef Segers der Congregatie van Scheut, priesterzendeling te Lao-Hou-Keou (Oost-Mongolie) (1921), showing that the missionaries of the Congregatie van het Onbevlekt Hart van Maria, better known as missionaries of Scheut (founded in 1862) did their work at quite some personal risk. Jozef Segers (brother of Arthur) was buried alive in 1900, during the Boxer Rebellion.
