David Mayor. Framed Pieces
Cullompton, Beau Geste Press, 1972. Edition of 90 copies. Plastic clip-bound, 20.5 x 17 cm, 26 pp. Mimeographed and rubber-stamped sheets, with mounted blue string on last page. Cover design by Chris Welch. Extremely rare and near mint copy.
Artists' book made for an exhibition at Fignal Gallery, based in the corridor of Hreinn Fridfinnsson's home in Amsterdam. The book was both a catalogue and an exhibition, to be installed according to the instructions in the book, in 'any small rectangular space', or to be recreated in your mind. The inserted string was meant for hanging. David Mayor was co-founder of the legendary independent publishing house Beau Geste Press, with Felipe Ehrenberg, Martha Hellion and Chris Welch in Devon (1970-1976). Fridfinnsson was one of the editors of the Icelandic Schmuck, published by Beau Geste Press in 1972. Ref: Beau Geste Press, Alice Motard 2020, pp. 100-101.
