Souvenirs from Century 87
Ephemera and documentation relating to the major exhibition Century 87, featuring site-specific installations by international artists throughout the city of Amsterdam, curated by Sjarel Ex and Els Hoek in 1987. Participants included Anselmo, Boltanski, James Lee Byars, Francesco Clemente, René Daniëls, Dokoupil, Daan van Golden, Lili Dujourie, Marlene Dumas, Barry Flanagan, Jenny Holzer, Wolfgang Laib, Pieter Laurens Mol, Nam June Paik, Rhonda Zwillinger et al.
Comprises: an exhibition guide; a '3d catalogue' consisting of a viewfinder with a set of picture discs); four promotional leaflets; two transparent plastic bags with printed Century 87 logos; two vinyl albums by Peter Baren with the soundtrack to his installation at Munt Tower (a roaring deer and hissing gas flame); a transparent sachet and large plastic bag containing blue pebbles from Daan van Golden's contribution 'Agua Azul', a mesmerizing intervention in which all paths of the Hortus Botanicus were covered with blue-painted gravel; and 28 stickers printed white on red, 12 x 33.5 cm, showing the artist's name and the location of their project. Examples include 'Boltanski in the dungeon', 'Nam June Paik in the postoffice', 'Dokoupil and Scholte in the Red Light District'. (total 41)
