TAI. Taller Arte Ideologia, ca. 1977
Lithograph on matte off-white stock, 63 x 38 cm. Rare poster featuring the TAI logo, designed by Attilio Tuis. This copy was distributed in 1977 in Paris, when the Mexican multidisciplinary artists' collective participated in the Xe Biennale de Paris. Folded twice, aged copy with creases and small tears on outer edges, yet a remarkable document.
TAI originated in the classrooms of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the National Autonomous University of Mexico in the early 1970s, adopting a critical Marxist view on art and society. Its members included Ana Maria Martinez de la Escalera, Adriana Contreras, Atilio Tuis, Felipe Leal, and Andres de Luna. They represented Mexico at the in the 10th Paris Biennale, together with three other young artists' collectives: Grupo Proceso Pentagono, Grupo Suma, and Grupo Tetraedro.
