[Globes] Globe Terrestre. Paper mache globe w. col. lithogr. gores

Ø ca. 32 cm, height together w. wooden stand, iron turning mechanism with handle at the top ca. 62 cm, w. label: Brussels, Merzbach & Falk, Librairie Européenne C. Muquard / Institut Géographoque de Bruxelles, 1879; the iron turning mechanism marked Librairie C. Muquard on one side and "E pur si muove" (and still she moves, a famous quote attributed to Galilei) on the other side. One tiny dent/crack, overall varnish sl. yellowed and w. some superficially rubbed spots, but a very attractive example of this scarce globe. Allmayer-Beck, Modelle der Welt (1997), p. 288. Merzbach & Falk were only active under that name in 1875-82, Merzbach being a follower of Charles Muquardt from Leipzig, who also had an office in Brussels.
