[South Africa] Photo album depicting the Second Boer War

Ca. 1899-1903. Approx. 195 albumen prints, var. sizes between 15 x 20 cm and 8 x 8 cm (a few photo's loose), some w. captions in Dutch written in pencil, oblong contemp. album, 23 x 32 cm. Highly interesting and detailed album of the Second Boer War, apparently from a Boer perspective, contains photo's of a.o. soldiers and canons being moved across railways, manned artillery stations, a prisoner of war camp at Ladysmith, military tent camps, dead soldiers in trenches, and images of the destructions caused by the war (destroyed, bridges, railways, buildings, etc.). Also contains some topographical view of Johannesburg and traditional villages. Last pages contain approx. 50 topographical view made in Europe, mostly in the Netherlands. Album shabby, some photos a bit faded.

Since most of the documentation of the Second Boer War is from the British side, this album provides a fascinating and rare insight on the Boer perspective of the war.
