Piët, Frans (1905-1997). Sjors en Sjimmie. De Gasbel
India ink on paper, 1965-66. All 104 pages from the book (partly on double sheets, each two pages numbered identically), published as album by Spaarnestad, 1969. Each sheet 39 x 27 cm. Added: col. example (cut-out from Sjors magazine?) mounted on board for the French Panorama edition, with annot. in margin.
Frans Piët began his work on Sjors—the Dutch successor to Martin Branner’s Perry Winkle—in 1938. This collection originates from Piët’s private archive. To our delight part of this archive, which was previously considered lost, was rediscovered in a moving box on an attic. The material is offered here in its entirety, across seven lots in this auction. (total 104)
