[Rotterdam] J.W. van Leenhoff's Adresboek 1859
(Rotterdam), Handelsdrukkerij J.W. van Leenhoff, (1858), 82,462 p., contemporary cloth.
Stained/foxed copy with occassional small defects, cloth on hinges split. The title page could also be the original front cover, the final name mentioned on page 462 is Zwanevelt, so almost certainly complete.
Exceptionally rare, early directory of which we could not find any other copy; not even in Picarta! The book is printed in small type and contains an enormous amount of information. The first 43 pages contain addresses and names of government institutions, schools, societies etc., followed by a kind of Yellow Pages with the most important professions, companies etc. (to p. 82). After that the List of names follows the city's neighbourhoods (to p. 247) and the book concludes with a name list in alphabetic order (p.248-462).
