[Classic on marriage and woman] Huuwelyk, Dat is Het gansche beleyt des Echten Staats;

Afgebeeld in ses Hooft-stukken, Maecht, Vryster, Bruyt, Vrouwe, Moeder, Weduwe. Behelsende mede de mannelyke Tegen-plichten. Door J. Cats. Amsterdam, de Erven van de Wed: G. de Groot, en Antony van Dam; in Compagnie, 1720, (22),538 p., with engraved frontispiece, folding engraved plate (children's games) and 36 half-page engraved illustrations, all after Adriaen van de Venne, contemporary calf with gilt, ribbed back with morocco title shield.

Lovely copy of a finely illustrated classic in this field, of which the first edition appeared in 1625. The first two chapters (virgin and maid) have titles beginning thus: "Wegh-wyser ten Huuwelyk, uyt den Doolhof der Kalverliefde". The other parts incorporate in the titles the phrase "Christelyk Huys-wyf", in which the woman is likened to the seasons (bride=Spring, wife=Summer, mother=Autumn and widow=Winter).
