[Indonesia. Remarkable photo album with two series] Karel G.J. d'Arnaud Gerkens Jr.

"Onze huurwoning met flinken tuin te Weltevreden (Batavia), in Gang boentoe No.8 (Koningsplein Westzijde); 1899-1907 en 1908-1912. Opnamen van (Karel G.J.) d'Arnaud Gerkens Jun:r. Afdrukken vervaardigd bij de firma Charls [sic] en Van Es te Weltevreden, behalve Nos. 1, 2, 8 en 10, door een Chineesch fotograaf te Weltevreden vervaardigd." Album with typed title strip and 25 (of 27) pasted photos, each ca. 17 x 22 cm. (1x oval), each with typed strip with inscription, several with additional marginal manuscript information on the people depicted, original cloth, 25 x 33 cm.

Lacks the leaf with photos 24 and 25, one leaf loose and the spine and corners of the binding are worn. With in the same album and by the same photographers and printed by Charls en Van Es at Weltevreden ("behalve No.4 door een Chineesch fotograaf te Weltevreden vervaardigd"): "Ons eigen huis en erf te Tjibadag (residentie Preanger Regentschappen op Java).", typed title strip and a series of 21 photos with typed inscription strips, each ca. 17 x 22 cm. Remarkable view of the lives d'Arnaud Gerkens family, in the shape of beautiful photo reports with interiors, exteriors and surroundings of two different houses in Indonesia in which this family lived and worked. Various photos depict Karel d'Arnaud Gerkens ("onze paps") and the master of the house, Gerke d'Arnaud Gerkens. One photo shows Karel Gerkens and Gerrit Grijns (the vitamin pioneer?) together.
