Library stamps on the title; uncut copy with the protruding edges of text leaves and plates slightly frayed, tanned and duststained; partly vaguely waterstained in bottom margin; rebacked; despite these defects still a fair copy. J. H. Knoop is mostly known for his standard work on Pomology. He was director of the Marienburg garden near Leeuwarden and, after his dismissal for excessive drinking, wrote several books on plant systematics, horticulture, astronomy, mathematics and history.
