*Piet Hesse and Louis Solser were a known popular actor duo. Their collaboration began in 1897 and lasted until Solser's death in 1915. They worked as an independent duo (incl. as Wip and Snip, forerunners of Snip and Snap), but also ran a popular theatre company known as Ensemble Solser and Hesse. In 1928, Herman Tholen and Albert van Lier ("The Juveniles") went on tour with their wives as "The Tholen and Van Lier Four". As the Duo Tholen and Van Lier they achieved great fame particularly in the thirties.
