[Groningen and Drenthe] W.A. Scholten 1841-1872

Plate edition for the occasion of the World Exposition in Vienna, 1873, printed in Magdeburg by Walter Ochs, 1872, with photographic "index" of 14 tinted lithographic images: portrait of W.A. Scholten, frontispiece and 12 bird's eye views of factories, all leafs 32 x 48 cm., loose as published in gilt and blind-stamped half morocco bookshaped box, large folio.

Good copy, on inside front cover a dedication in pen on silk: "Aan den heer C. Geurts van zev. Dienste W.A. Scholten, Groningen 1873" and with tipped-in piece of cloth printed with the address of the Foxhol factory. Rare publication, 2 copies in Picarta. The lithos illustrate how the company came to grow so large, with the various factories (potato starch, strawboard etc.): Eurêka in Hoogezand (1841), Vlijt en Eendracht in Sappemeer (1854), Motké in Zuidbroek (1859), Selfhelp in Groningen (1862), Potato starch factories in Stadskanaal and Veendam (1866), "Foxhol" factory in Brandenburg an der Havel (1866), Bürgermeister von Schultz in Neu Ruppin (1869), "Schiedam" distillery in Sappemeer (1869), Gideon factory in Tängermünde (1870), Willem III in Tarnow (1870) and finally the Jan Boelens factory in Petrokow (Russia).
