First Boekenbon 1934
De Nederlandsche Boekverkoopersbond, 1934. 9 x 13.5 cm. One of 3000 printed copies of the first Dutch book token.
In 1931, the secretary of the Commissie Collectieve Reclame voor het Nederlandse Boek (now CPNB) discovered the Book Tokens in England. From 1962 the payment of the vouchers, up to that point settled by the individual members, was arranged centrally by the NBb, and in 1991 the Boekenbon was transferred to a separate subsidiary, de Nederlandse Boekenbon b.v. From 1996 the tokens show portraits of authors: every denomination features a specific writer.
From 2012 the Boekenbon became a plastic gift card. This gift card can also be redeemed online at one of 1500 participating bookshops.
