PASSED

[Magic tricks, bibliography, cartography etc.] J.L. Keuchenius (?) J.A.B. (ca. 1810)

Notebook, dated "den 12 v. Louwmaand [January] 1810" and with the name of the compiler, 75,(1) numbered p. and 3 loosely inserted sheets, consisting of a subdivided bibliography (p.1-10, 55-57, 60 and 75, mostly 18th- and early 19th-century books) (magic) tricks (p.13-19), "de voornaamste grote Mannen onder de Oude Grieken waren:" (p. 22-23), a list of kings and emperors in the 18th century subdivided per nation (p. 31-41), the subsequent popes in that century (p. 44), 13 American states declared free by England on 13 November 1782 (p. 45), list of peace treaties made in the 18th century (p. 46), list of historical persons (p. 50-51) and a list of maps (final page, remaining pages blank), original cardboard, small 4to.

Lovely and interesting notebook, the booklist is almost certainly an inventory of the library of the compiler (with part deleted again), consisting of e.g. poetry, travel and biographical accounts, history, novels, geography and physics and miscellaneous. The (magic) tricks, for example, consist of aids for guessing numbers, the guessing of the finger on which someone is hiding a ring, "Het verborgen Geschrift", "Met "klaar water te schrijven" and "Om op een ei te schrijven". The countries on which information from the 18th century is collected, are Denmark, Russia, England, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Poland, Prussia and France.
