Journal de toute la Famille, publié par Jean-Macé, P.J. Stahl & JULES VERNE. Vol. 1-60 (all published). Paris, Hetzel, 1864-1894, continued as: Nouvelle série. Vol. 1-6. Paris, Hetzel, 1895-1897 (thus forming volumes 1-66 of the whole series-numbering). 4to, contemporary uniform green half leather, except for the first 3 and the last 2 volumes, which are in publisher's blue cloth. Browning in 3 volumes, otherwise in good condition.

The most important and best illustrated educational and family-entertainment magazine in France, published bi-monthly in instalments of 32 pages. The journal is profusely illustrated by artists such as Doré, Bertall, Froelich, Bayard, Férat, Grandville, Humbert, L. Richter, etc. From 1895 onwards part of the illustrations were in colour. The editorial board was formed by the publisher Hetzel himself (under the pseudonym P.J. Stahl), Jean Macé (founder of the 'Ligue de l'Enseignement'), Viollet-Le-Duc, Alexandre Dumas, Erckmann-Chatrian, and last but not least JULES VERNE: the journal contains several novels by Jules Verne in pre-original form (published in feuilleton form), illustrated by Riou (e.g. Aventures de 3 Russes, 20000 lieues sous les Mers, Les enfants du Capt. Grant, Aventures du Cept. Hatteras, etc.). Also published were novels by André Laurie, ex-member of the Commune, who wrote in the same line as Jules Verne, and worked together with him on 'L'Épave du Cynthia'. Many other novels are included e.g. 'La découverte des mines du roi Salomon' by Rider Haggard, 'Robinson suisse' by P.J. Stahl etc.
